There are plenty of times where I prefer Angel to Buffy.

Well, I guess me too. But I think there's just something about Buffy that marked it out from the rest. Angel was an amazing show, but it was different.

You really can't compare because they're very different shows. I prefer BTVS to Angel, but I know lots of people who prefer Angel to BTVS. One is an almost detective show and about redemption, and the other one starts in highschool and is all about coming of age and growing up. Their audiences would naturally be very different.

While i like angel it wouldnt bother me if i missed an episode whreas as with buffy id be freaking like what if sumthing important happened for me buffy's my fav so Angel cannot compare but its pretty good show anyway

Angel is a whedon creation, so naturally it's good ;)
But Buffy... there is no comparison! No one can argue that Buffy has more quality (the Body, the Gift... so many eps that are BEYOND this world...). In Angel, i never experienced Awe...
More to the point, i cannot see myself rewatching Angel except its s5 and a few eps in s1. However, with Buffy, i'm already in my 3rd marathon ;P
So, to sum up, CAN'T COMPARE ;)

Well don't kill me or anything but I actually thought Angel was better than Buffy.

Well when I picked "Can't compare" I mean that you actually can't compare, not that one is better than the other. They're different kinds of shows and they are good in different ways.



Now, in my mind BTVS is better than Angel, haha. I loved episodes like Teacher's Pet and Bad Eggs--for me they don't always have to fit in the the longterm storyline to be good.
When I watched Angel, I felt that the only episodes that really came up to BTVS's standard were the end of Season 2 and all of Season 5. The Lorne episodes in season 2 are I think my favorites of the whole series, haha. I would rewatch episodes like those over and over again, but doubt I would ever do a massive rewatchathon like I do with Buffy.

I agree with what Jillywinkles first said...that you can't really compare the two. Despite the fact that the shows had the same creator, the plots and characters are very different.

When it comes down to it, I think I prefer Angel, because of the way the characters progressed over time. On Buffy, most of the characters stayed pretty much the same from beginning to end (with the exception of Willow and Spike, who changed dramatically), but on Angel, nearly every character grew as a person and became different. Wes, Cordy, Doyle (in the short time he was on there), Fred, and Gunn all changed completely from who they were when the show started. It just seemed more realistic and interesting to me. Not that I'm bashing BTVS...I'll always think it's genuis. But with the exception of seasons 6 and 7 of Buffy, overall, I just like ATS better.

It stands on its own. Angel was geared more towards adults than Buffy ever was, it was always a much darker series.

While Buffy had more stand-out episodes like "The Body" or "The Gift" and "Conversations With Dead People" it also had some terrible episodes which Debs has pointed out. Angel had less wow moments but was far more consistent then BtVS

i love angel, but it can't compare with buffy. i don't hate it though, i'm actually watching it for the first time, i'm on the 3rd season, and i love it! never as good as buffy though.

I loved bad eggs! They will never make a show to compare with Buffy but a show based on Illyria (if Amy Acker was available) would be their best bet.

I'm going to be under Deb's glare for picking 'can't compare' but I do it because I agree that the two shows can't be compared. I think they compliment one another and I like to believe that without the one the other isn't complete. Both shows have their ups and downs and both are quality television but to keep this short I will just say that both shows are amazing and can't be compared. It's like asking which of my twinlets I love more - impossible to make a bloody decision.

I love Angel and BTVS for their individual diffrences, but Angel just pips the post at Coolness; I love Angels Broody, edgy, sexyness Meeeeooooowwwww!!!

We need Johnminh, he'll pay bit to, as Spike would say, oggle your goodies. I think we could get the funding from season one from him. This is done in the name of Illyria, so it's all good. ;F
