I also thought he'd turn out to be Dumbledore's man and in love with Lily. There's plenty of evidence in the series if you read it carefully. For one I knew Dumbledore would never have pleaded for his life. And I was sure that there was more to the "Snape's worst memory" scene. (Why was it his w o r s t memory? It couldn't be just because of James, who used to try and hex Snape on a regular basis.)

B u t: I don't like Snape. I never liked him and that hasn't changed just because he turned out to be "on the right side", as I knew he would. I don't hate him exactely, but I dislike him a lot for the way he was treating his students: favoritism, sarcasm, mobbing.

I was always divided on whether or not I thought he was good or bad, but regardless he was an interesting, enigmatic character right from the start. I don't think I like him more because I found out he was a hero because that implies that I would've liked him less if he'd turned out to be a true villain- and that isn't the case. I loved him for being complex, flawed, hard to figure out, and multidimensional- not because he was good or bad.

Always was one of my faves. Btw the pictures you used for this pick are great! Especially the ''No'' one when Snape pulls up his sleeves to be able to ''hit'' more effectively Ron and Harry who are talking to much (4th movie)!

Though i always wondered if he was either good and bad, the coin kept flipping over, but i love that about his character he kept you guessing about his true loyalties. He was defiantly a multidimensional character that had his flaws, he wasnt perfect, he made his mistakes, HUGE mistakes, but some of those mistakes altered the course on how the events played out.

Trust him I was always in a bit of doubt if he was Dumbledore's man or not, till I heard about a theory that he might have been in love with Lily, and like Elenna said, there was some small clues to this, and I'm glad in the 7th book this was true

I actually felt and feel that if Alan had NOT played him, it would have perhaps made a difference in how I felt about him. I always trusted Snape even when it seemed like we shouldn't mostly because I trusted Dumbledore. In retrospect, I wonder why I so blindly trusted...but you can't second guess. If I had only read the books, I would have viewed Snape more harshly. Alan played him with a certain twinkle here and there that caused me to like him. I am a fan anyway though...hard to know where the line crossed.

Truth be told I blindly trusted Dumbledore's descision. I continue to trust Snape even through the finale of book 6. But, I guess that was because I 'knew' Dumbledore wouldn't plead for his life, so there have to be a deeper meaning to his words. Aside it all I have always found Snape rather amusing.

I don't really have strong feelings for Snape... I mean, I think he is a great, great character. It's HP, and JK really knows how to develop fictional characters. Snape is a really good one... But I still don't love him. I mean, I think it's great that he was able to love, which was what really saved him from being just like Voldemort, and he was very brave... But I still can't get over how he bullied his students. I mean, I understand he was bullied when he was young, but that was from his PEERS. I'm not saying it was ok, of course, but it is MUCH worse for a grown man to bully kids, that's just wrong. And his teaching techniques were horrible... That's what makes me not be a fan.

I do love his character, I love Dumbledore for giving him a chance and for trusting him, and his story was incredibly interesting, with huge ups and downs... I love him as a character for what he brings to the books but that doesn't mean I necessarily LIKE him just because he was in love with Lily.
