Yes, there's quite a list of characters I hate. I fail to see why we shouldn't. It is equally 'fine' to love some characters as it to is to hate other. It solely our choice to make. The JK's opinion on certain characters has nothing to do with it.
Now, when it comes to the the golden trio issue, I don't agree with you in the slightest. Trust me, it is possible to enjoy the books and the movies while supporting the Dark Lord and the Death Eaters. :)

I hate some characters. Some of them (like Umbridge and Pettigrew) are characters we're supposed to hate. Some of them aren't. I don't have to like or dislike them just because JK does. And neither, for that matter, does anyone else.

Well, when it comes to Ginny, hate is a pretty powerless word!

I can understand dislike, but hate? The story basically revolves around them so if you hate them then your enjoyment of the book/film must be pretty lackluster. If there's moments where you hate them, that's fine, but if you hate one of the 3 main characters from the beginning of book 1 to the end of book 7.. I just don't get it.

I already know most people don't hate the GT so this is why i picked this one. It isn't about Jk's opinion. It's the fact that you HATE a character is bad spirit. You can love some and dislike others but when you truly hate any character, to me it doesn't seem right. Because the fact that you can even think of hating a character shows the power and greatness of that character. Be it Ginny or Umbridge. You actually think it real enough to have feelings towards it. To have an opinion. so even if i do hate umbridge, there is still the fact that she IS one of the greatest "characters" in the book, because she was built strongly.

That's the only option I agree with cause it's mostly the three of them and if you hate them you're always reading them so it wouldn't make sense.

Disagree on the others cause it doesn't matter if JK wrote a character to make us dislike or like him, if she made it cool or not..it's US with our own personal taste so people can hate Neville even though JK likes him or people can love Umbridge even though she's painted as a horrible villain. (I hate her but that's besides the point).

The thing about the Marauders is way too generalized and let's not forget Pettigrew betrayed his friends.

And people can hate professors even if they're good, maybe they don't like some behaviors or simply the character.

So for me is all a matter of opinions, tastes, backgrounds, experiences...they all come together and maybe make you hate a character. Hate is a strong word yeah but it can happen and even if JK wrote them a certain way, we have our own minds that can go into a million different directions so...I don't know if I've explained myself very well.. :)

This one makes sense to me, though I must admit sometimes there are characters I love as villains. As in, I would hate them if I knew them as a person, but love them as well-designed fictional characters. There are certain characters we just "love to hate".

Of course, if you hate the Golden Trio and still read the books you're in trouble... and most likely torturing yourself. D: I can completely understand why many readers' favourite characters may be someone who isn't Harry, Ron or Hermione, because there are plenty of likable characters in the series, and even if you're not such a fan of any of them you may still want to read on just for the storyline. But if you truly can't stand them, reading Harry Potter books must be torture!

I kind of agree that it is kind of bad spirit to hate the main characters' allies, especially when they're written about in such a way that suggests you're supposed to like them. Of course, being liked by the protagonist doesn't necessarily make them likable by the reader. I have no problem with people having their own opinions on such characters, and accept that some people do apparently hate them, but even so I think it's bad spirit to bash them and flame them. (though I think it's bad spirit to do that to any character, even someone we're supposed to hate)

Personally I don't think I hate any of the characters as such. I do hate certain actions performed by certain characters (such as a couple of the things Bellatrix does that I just can't forgive!) but that doesn't cause me to hate the characters all-round. And I don't hate characters I find boring, cliche, underdeveloped, etc. because hate is too strong a word for that sort of thing. There are characters I don't particularly care for but am not pessimistic enough about that to turn "not caring for" into "hate". For me, there has to be an actual negative reason, rather than simply a lack of positive reasons. And I'm thinking it'd have to be pretty strong to go from "dislike" to "hate"!

I'd also like to point out that not all the professors turned out to be good. Quirrell. Umbridge. The Carrows. Crouch Jr, if you count him as a professor. Depending on what you mean by "good", Lockheart.

Rowling made characters that she thought would be hated or had the meaning that is you should dislike someone - why not dislike them? not that you have to dislike those characters, but i still see a character like Umbridge is made so you can dislike or hate her, but you don't have too.
