It HAS to be. I mean, it is one of the best stories ever written..I don't think any other author (sorry if im wrong) has written a book about a school for magic and their occupants...In fact, is it even considered a classic now?

Yes as it will be passed down generation to generation so the fanbase will grow and grow and grow and it will continue to grow for eternity.

Yeah. It teaches so many life lessons. I'm going to be reading the series to my kids and then have them read them their selves when they are old enough. :p

How can they not become classics?! Think of the amount of people that have read the series, think of the amount of fan power that was necessary, from us, actors, actresses, directors, just everyone, that stayed with the series of movies till they were completed.
I have drug out movies I watched as a child (Goonies, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, Lost Boys, Last Unicorn, Monster Squad, Legend, etc.) to share them with my son when he was younger. I can't wait to be able to share them with future children. And now that list includes Harry Potter.

I guess it will be a classic like the Lord of the Rings is, but not a literal classic like Shakespeare or so. It is one thing to be a best seller, and another a classical piece of literature.

Well, depends really. If you look how it's written and compare it to Tolkien and Dickens, I'm not quite sure (even though Harry Potter is well written). But considering the impact the story has done to the world... and the Colleges taking Harry Potter classes (one of them being Yale)...and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (it's a theme park in Orlando,Florida, for those who don't know)... and Muggle Quidditch (there's a team in Harvard)... okay, it has a pretty big chance.
