“Wait, Arthur.” Alfred said, grabbing the Brit’s arm.
“Let me go.” he growled.
“Please, let me explain. I panicked, I…”
“Save it. I had a feeling this might happen.”
“I didn’t mean to say what I did.”
“You didn’t mean it? We had finally decided to tell everyone about us! It was so hard to work up my nerve to say so, and you know what that’s like for me! It‘s-” Arthur’s voice cracked then. He covered his face with one of his hands and turned his back to the American. Today was the day they were going to tell everyone about their relationship. After the meeting, Alfred had gotten everyone’s attention. Just as the words were about to leave his mouth, he backed out at the last minute and said it wasn’t anything important.
“Bloody hell…” Arthur mumbled, wiping his eyes on his sleeve. Why, when they just keep hurting each other, did they try to stay together? Arthur couldn’t make any sense of it. “I’m going home.”
“Arthur-”
“Please. Just let me be.”

Alfred ran a hand through his blonde hair. He had really screwed up this time. Arthur would likely never speak to him again unless he did something. Though, what exactly was he supposed to do?
He ran his hand through his hair a second time and suddenly thought of someone who might be able to help. Even though there was a very slim chance this person would want to, it was all Alfred had. He took his cell phone out of his pocket and punched in a number before putting the receiver to his ear.
“Hey, Matt?”

After much pleading from Alfred, Matthew finally agreed to come over.
“Okay, what is it you wanted?” he asked.
“You know how Arthur and I have been going out for a while?” He asked the Canadian. Matt was currently the only person to know about Arthur and Alfred.
“Yeah.”
“Before the last world meeting, we had agreed to tell everyone we were dating. But just as I was about to say it, I slipped up. Instead, I just said that it was nothing they should worry about. I don’t know why I did that. What came over me…?” Alfred dropped his head into his hands. “What am I supposed to do?”
Matt was suddenly feeling very conflicted. Yes, Alfred had caused him more than his fair share of problems over the years. So many problems. Yet, his brother desperately needed him. Matt couldn’t just turn his back on him.
“Al.” Matt said, putting his hand on Alfred’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. We can fix this.”

Alfred sat through the next world meeting anxiously. He and Matt spent quite a bit of time coming up with a plan. Well, most of the time was spent convincing Alfred that it would work. Now that he was ready, he wanted to put it into action.
Arthur had avoided looking at Alfred through the entire meeting. He was afraid of what would happen if he did. He managed to keep his head until the meeting was adjourned. He collected his things from the table and made for the door, but a hand suddenly latched onto his prevented him from doing so.
The hand twirled him around, giving him a brief glimpse of Alfred before a pair of lips pressed against his. Arthur gasped in surprise, then relaxed and closed his eyes. He tossed his things onto the floor and wrapped his arms around the American.
They both could feel the stares of the others burning into them. Neither cared.
“Oh hon hon, what do we have here?” Francis laughed. Not even he could take Arthur out of this moment. Alfred broke away and stared into Arthur’s eyes.
“Do you forgive me now?” Alfred asked.
“I don’t know, you might have to convince me a little more.” Arthur teased. Alfred laughed and hugged him tight. Arthur hugged him back and whispered, “Thank you.”
