YouTube, the Google Inc's video sharing website, announced on its link that it has won the case against Viacom, so it needn't to take responsibility for its users' copyright infringement videos.

A federal judge handed Google Inc. a major victory Wednesday this week by rebuffing media company Viacom Inc.'s attempt to collect more than $1 billion in damages for the alleged copyright abuses of YouTube. This means that the court has decided that YouTube is protected by the safe harbor of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) against claims of copyright infringement.

"Copyright protection is essential to the survival of creative industries," said Michael Fricklas, Viacom's general counsel. "It is and should be illegal for companies to build their businesses with creative material they have stolen from others."

This is really a big win for YouTube and its users.
