Those popular #ISaidYes Instagram posts have become more and more colorful over the past few years. Why? Well, couples have embraced the colorful stone trend for engagement rings, picking rubies, emeralds and sapphires over traditional diamonds. While our first though is this

Anusha Couttigane, a senior analyst at Kantar Retail, told

these stones speak to young people\'s ethical values, financial means and desire to express themselves. "A generation of marital-age people are now prioritizing other things such as weddings, housing, and the cost of having children, rather than splashing out on a really expensive ring." Colorful stones are often less expensive, but there\'s one problem: The growing popularity of these gems means prices are rising, too.

But cost isn\'t the only reason brides are embracing this trend (after all, it\'s usually their partner that pays). Many women simply want a ring that\'ll make a statement and going with a unique color is certainly splashy. Plus, gems have special meanings behind them. For instance, emeralds represent hope, which is something most couples want going into a marriage.
